For children aged up to 13 that are interested in competing in Surf Lifesaving competitions (Carnivals), the Junior Surf Sports Committee runs additional training sessions on Wednesday and Friday nights from 4:15pm to 5:30pm. Cost of this additional training is $150 per child for the season.
This is a fun and safe environment where the kids can push themselves to increase their fitness capacity and refine their Surf Skills.
NB:
- Children under 10 years old (U10s) require a parent on the beach at all times for safety reasons.
- At least one parent volunteer is required for competition children to fill the roles of water safety, officials, logistics and management etc at competitions.
There are six Carnivals for the 2025/26 season including two held at Omaha, you don't need to compete in all the events, just try a couple and see how they like it and still enjoy the culture and hard work our Surf Sports Kids enjoy at training.
For further information and to register your interest in Junior Surf Sports please email the Junior Surf Sports Committee at juniorsports@omahasurf.co.nz.
- Participation only competition is encouraged for children aged from 8yrs through to 13 years.
- All competitors must have achieved their 200 meter swim badge for water events only. These proficiencies ensure that children are capable of completing the competition course in a reasonable time. Sunday training sessions are structured towards achieving these goals.
- On Carnival days, junior competitors report to the Omaha tent, children are to remain with their Managers during the Carnival as the Managers are responsible for the children during events. Parental assistance in carrying towels, water bottles, goggles, boards, sunblock, etc is necessary and invaluable.
JUNIOR SURF OFFICIALS
We are required as a club to provide Surf Officials at every Carnival we attend.
Surf Official Courses are run at various times through the year. If your child is considering to be competing then completing one of these courses is encouraged. For more information, go to www.surflifesaving.org.nz. To book courses please contact the Junior Surf Sports Committee.
COMPETITORS CODE OF CONDUCT
- Never argue with an official. If you disagree, have your Manager approach the official after the competition.
- Control your temper. Verbal abuse of officials and sledging other competitors, deliberately distracting or provoking an opponent is not acceptable or permitted behaviour in any sport.
- Work equally hard for yourself and/or your team. Your team’s performance will benefit and so will you.
- Be a good sport. Applaud all good performance whether they are made by your club or another surf club.
- Treat all participants in your sport as you like to be treated. Do not bully or take unfair advantage of another competitor.
- Cooperate with your Manager, coach, team-mates and opponents. Without them there would be no competition.
- Participate for your own enjoyment and benefit, not just to please parents and coaches.
- Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion.
- Do not interfere with the progress and/or conduct of competition.
- Disputes at inter-club carnival competitions are to be dealt with in accordance with the procedures set out in the Junior Surf Sports Manual.
