These can be be purchased via KINDO beanie $20, safety vest $30 (download the KINDO APP and add Omaha Beach SLSC, or add to your existing Kindo account if you have one already). If you are not able to use Kindo, please email mail@omahasurf.co.nz for an invoice option. We have a small amount of loan gear available if you forget your gear on the day.
AGE GROUPS
Age groups are split to cater for our increased membership numbers over recent years, and to help our coaches further tailor activities to the needs of the group.
Please see the table below for your childs age group:
Age at 30th September 2025:
Age Group
5 Tadpoles
6 Turtles
7 Seahorses
8 Stingrays
9 Sharks
10 Dolphins*
11 Orcas*
12 Marlins*
13+ Marlins or Rookies**
* It is recommended for Dolphins and above for children to be able to swim 200m unaided. Children will be asked to complete a 200m swim when conditions are right to obtain their “200m badge”. Children must have a “200m badge” to use the long foam boards.
** It is recommended that if your child is 13 years old and has not participated in a surf club before, then they join the Marlins group for a season season and then Rookies the following season. Please feel free to discuss this with our junior surf coordinator for the best option.
ROOKIE LIFEGUARDS
In the Rookies group, the students will participate in all the training required to complete their SLSA (Surf Life Saving Award) and work towards become real lifeguards! This includes beach/water safety skills, rescues, releases, first aid and beach management training. An assessment will be conducted after the end of the season where they will have the opportunity to be assessed for the SLSA. Rookies will meet & sign on at the club training room.
