Age Groups
As with last season, age groups will be split to cater for our increased membership numbers over recent years, and to help our coaches further tailor activities to the needs of the group.

Please see the table below for your childs age group:

NOTE we can accommodate a child in a lower group if it is a better fit for their confidence / ability - please talk to the coach / manager first.

* It is recommended for Dolphins and above for children to be able to swim 200m. Children will be asked to complete a 200m swim when conditions are right to obtain their “200m badge”. Children must have a “200m badge” to use the long foam boards.

** It is recommended that if your child is 13 years old and has not participated in a surf club before, then they join the Marlins group for a season season and then Rookies the following season. Please feel free to chat to us for the best option.

Rookie Lifeguards
In the Rookies group, the students will participate in all the training required to complete their SLSA (Surf Life Saving Award) and work towards become real lifeguards! This includes beach/water safety skills, rescues & releases, first aid and beach management training. An assessment will be conducted after the end of the season where they will have the opportunity to be assessed for the SLSA. Rookies will meet & sign on at the club training room.

Surf Sports
For those children that are interested in competing in surf life saving competitions, the club runs additional training sessions at a cost of $50 per child for the season. These training sessions will be on certain weekdays after school. Please register your interest in surf sports when you join or renew your membership. We will send more details out on competitions and training closer to the start of the season.

NB: At least one parent volunteer will be required for competition children to fill the roles of water safety, officials and management at competitions.
